About this teaching resource

Conferring with students is a unique and significant opportunity to learn about what a student is doing as a reader/writer as we engage with them side by side during the Reading Conference.

This resource, Conferring with Readers: Assessment Rubric, K-2, allows you to have a comprehensive eye on the child as they are reading, and also during your discussions in your 1:1 conference with them.

It will help you jointly set the next reading goals.

The assessment rubric is divided into:

  • Habits and behaviours
  • Accuracy
  • Comprehension

Use our other 'related; conferring recording tools below as a way to capture your noticings and interactions with the student.

These recording tools allow you to:

  • Keep brief records that remind you about what was discussed
  • Give the learner the confidence and knowledge to know what they are doing well and what they can do to continue to grow.

Learn more about the Reading Conference, by listening to our podcast: Transformative Tracking: The Reading Conference here.
